My last year at Te Pahu school

I have had a great last year here at Te Pahu school. Lots of new learning and a fun teacher to help the process. Recently we have been reflecting on the time we have had earlier years whether we joined along the way or were there from the start. In this post witch is sadly my last I present some of the highlights of the year.

One of my favourite parts of the year was the first camp we had. W got to know our new teacher a lot more and see the funner side of him.

Another favourite memory's  was the ski trip. It was a long trip but well worth it. One of mr Marquands quality a was pushing and challenging yourself so the ski trip was an very enjoyable experience for me and some of the shyer classmates

Sound - liquid audio

This week we were learning a bout sound how it travels and  what it is. We discovered that sound is vibrations traveling through the air and into our ears which are like satellite dishes picking up the sound waves and decoding them in our brains. One of our experiments was covering a speaker in a plastic bag and putting liquid on the speaker. Then we played a song to see what the results were. We each discovered something about sound and it was a fun way to learn.

AG Day

Wednesday 16th October Te Pahu Schools PTA set up our annual Agricultural Day. Almost everybody had a calf, lamb , or did an alternative challenge. All animals had three normal rounds and one optional. Calfskin had leading, rearing and dairy or beef type. Lambs had leading, rearing and call and follow. Goats had similar courses but very few people led a goat. at the end i came out with a 5th, 4th and 3rd. there was also a group of three for all animals and it is judjed my how well they lead together.

Energy

Throughout term 4 Te Pahu school has bee studying energy. so far we have learnt what energy is and the different forms it can take. One of the main forms of energy we have been learning about is sound and its characteristics.

With the amazing teaching of Mr Marquand we have learnt through YouTube videos, walking about 100 M awat and having Mr Marquand clap to blocks together and listening to the delay of the sound, spoons connected to our ears with wool and banging it on a solid obgect to hear the difference in sound, bull roarers (pieces of wood and string spun around to vibrate the air and make interesting noise), slinky pushed to show how sound travels, sugar on tin then patted to see vibrations and putting our ear up to the table and taping it showing how sound travels faster through solids.

some of the interesting points and surprises were sound travels through solids faster than liquids, a sonic boom happens when something goes faster than the speed of sound, the vibration of molecules travels sound like waves and thunder comes after lightning because the lightning is far a way and the sound of thunder is delayed.

at the end of this some of us still have questions like can heat change into a different form or how does sound bounce and go through things. the most of us understand everything but some are still clueless

Creative Writing NO.2.

Let me tell you about the time my brother tried to cook me...

I was sleeping in my cozy little cot, sucking on my dummy. You know normal baby stuff. Then my brother came in with an evil look in his eye. He screeches at me "BATH TIME." He grabs me by the stomack. I begin to freak out with fear as helifts me out of the cot and squeeses me tight."Buttered up and into the pan cooked like steak and seazoned like ham," he sings eerily as he carrys me into the kitchen. He covers me in an oily butter. at this point I was trying to escape but he kept reeling me back in. then hecovered me in mixed horbs and slowly lowered me into the frying pan. But no pain, I thought- untill he leaned over and turned up the element. I bleated out screaming my head off  as my brother started roasting me. I started to blister on my legs and butt feeling extreme agony. Then out came my first words,"No Canibal." I shut my mouth mot believing what i just said. My brother was shocked too. I suddenly jumped out of the pan and head butted hom in the face but came back and hit the draws. i turned and realized that my brother was crying.

I heared mum coming and started crying as well to cover my tracks. suddnely mum came rushing through the door like a bat out of hell. she carfully picked me up and carried me into the ca with my brother. i was rushed to A&E with mum swearing black and blue at my brother. Once I was inside I was rushed to the emergency departyment and drugged.

Well at least I wasn't cooked for my brothers apetiser that night

1000 Meters

31 October 3013.

I arrive at school ready to learn. I walk in the door. I look at the things we are going to be doing today....
1000 meters! What the heck! Since when was this happening. I was wearing longs and I didn't even have a change of cloths suitable for running.

This is how it started for me. So I just went along with it until it was our race. All of the school ran laps around the field in different age groups and slightly less distance for the younger ones. The ones not running were in house groups cheering on their house and its colour. At this point we are still to find out on the placing points for each house.

Most of us had fun running. Some of us didn't. But like we are always told...

As long as you do your best it doesn't matter what your placing is

Bull Roarers

All the noise was almost unbearable.

Our teacher decided to show us some instruments known as bull Roarers for the first week of term 4. We were each chosen one by one to chose a piece of wood ( resembling a bull roarer ) and tie it to some string. We then went outside to test them out - that's when the noise came in. Many different sounds of different volume. Afterwards we all shared which ones we thought worked best ( long and thin ) and if we wanted we could take them home.

This was the first experiment we had to do with our study of energy. It was a great way to learn about force and energy.

Conservation of energy

In my recent school studies i have been reasearching Conservation of energy. I have discovered that conservation of enemy is a physics law that states the total energy of an isolated state can not change in other words it is said to conserve over time. The energy can not be formed or destroyed but can change form for example kinetic, potential, heat and light energy.

Market Day

gongs for all. well at Te Pahu school at least. we all had a great day at market day buying and selling different things ranging from food to throwing darts we all  fun. gongs are our form of currency- 1 gong = 50 Cents. it was surprising how difficult it was for some people getting used to the stress of running a business. the best of us had a great sales day and earned plenty more gongs than needed to pay back the loan that we got out.

1 + 1 = ?

Teacher: let's see ah, Shane
Student: hah, oh, what. Ah yes Mr
Teacher: what is 1+1.
Student: oh um, I know this one it's ahh, um, I think.
Teacher: incorrect.
Rest of class: ha ha ha, your dumb, go back to Pre school.

Maths. One subject that lots of kids hate. Well I can assure you that maths is made simple here at te pahu school. Our teacher always comes up with many different ways for us to learn maths easily. For example...
568 divided by 8
8X7 = 56 (8X70 = 560)
8X1 = 8
1+70 = 71
Answer: 71

Teacher: what is 7X8 ah Shane
Student: it's 56 Mr
Teacher: well done Shane
Now that's more like it

Snow Trip

Creative writing

Sometimes during the week we have creative writing. Everyone writes or types up their story relating to a picture and topic. Each one is unions as well as the type of story.

Here is an example of my writing...

Mr. Marquand thinks I’m reading...
But I’m really building my empire in another galaxy,
I’m swimming in a pool of creamy milk chocolate,
I’m riding a hawk at only 5 inches tall.

Mr. West thinks I’m writing...
But I’m really fighting living skeletons in a tomb of lost treasure,
I’m flying a WW2 quad engine bomber over the school,
I’m piloting the lost Nemosub under the Pacific Ocean.

Mrs. Lucas thinks I’m listening...
But I’m really snorkeling around the Great Barrier Reef,
I’m building my fortress in the realm of Minecraft,
I’m slaying monsters with my warfare katana,
I’m doing doughnuts and massive drifts with my
motorbike.

I’ve had a awesome day at school, I cant wait to come back.

Te Maunga Shire

For term three 2013 te pahu school turns itself into a social society including government, bank manager, warehouse C.E.O. And of course many different ventures that is all put together week seven of our term. At the end of it all the venture/service with the most gongs (gongs are the currency that we use. They are each worth 50C to one gong) will win a prize and like everyone else with enough gongs will be able to spend it on a day to play a game for a certain Amount of time e.g. 20 gongs to ten minuets of play. Air Weighs Something!?!?

fishy business

this morning we did a science experiment with a australasian snapper that was discoloured and aged. first we looked at the diferent parts of the fish, then we cut out a small portion to look at. in another one of our tests 8 of us rubed their hands on to fish then were given a chemical- baking soda, vinegar etc. we all took a sniff at their hands and waited while they doused and/or rubbed their hands with the given chemical. the rest of u made a asumption to wich would work the best. after smelling them all twice the results came out as... 1st dish washing detergent 2nd soap 3rd toothpaste 4th vinegar
